3. How to passively cool an FR4 LED matrix?

The passive cooling of the FR4 LED matrix is mainly through thermal vias and metal backplates attached with thermal adhesive. Running LEDs below max current can also reduce heat generation.

5. How do I choose between passive and active matrix LED PCB?

Passive matrix(PM) LED PCB, cost-effective and simple, is suitable for small displays and static/low-speed contents. Pricer active matrix(AM) LED PCB uses dedicated ICs to drive each pixel to achieve greater brightness, motion clarity, and scalability, making it more suitable for professional and high-performance applications.

6. Can I daisy-chain multiple LED matrix PCBs?

Yes, you can daisy-chain multiple LED matrix PCBs to generate more complex displays with guaranteed power delivery, signal integrity, and suitable solder connections.

7. Can FR4 LED matrix be used outdoors?

Yes, FR4 LED matrix can be used outdoors, but it needs conformal coatings like silicon to withstand rain and humidity, and requires UV-resistant treatments to resist UV exposure and temperature fluctuation. If you want to use the LED matrix in outdoors, MTPCB, like aluminum, may be a better choice.
